About the Speakers:
Richard Carl is a yoga/meditation teacher and founder of Organize and Meditate (OM), an approach to activism by using the tools of meditation to remain heart-centered while also engaged in social justice work. OM provides meditation meetups, workshops, and education to help prevent burnout and raise awareness. Richard's experience living a sober lifestyle for nearly a decade has helped give him an understanding of what it takes to effect transformation both personally and collectively.
Richard completed research on international migration while studying in Mexico City at Iberoamericana University in 2009. He became well versed in the challenges of climate change while working on World Bank and Asian Development Bank projects for several years in Beijing, China. He has lived abroad in Spain, Mexico, China, and Indonesia.
Elizabeth Yeampierre is a internationally recognized Puerto Rican attorney and environmental and climate justice leader of African and Indigenous ancestry born and raised in New York City. A national leader in climate justice movement, Elizabeth is the co-chair of the Climate Justice Alliance. She is Executive Director of UPROSE, Brooklyn's oldest Latino community based organization. Ms. Yeampierre has been a featured speaker at local, national and international forums including Sage Paris 2015, 2016 GRI Amsterdam, White House Forum on Environmental Justice, Yale, Harvard, Cooper Union, Columbia, and universities, colleges and conferences all over the country and spoke at the opening climate rally for Pope Francis at the National Mall. Her work is featured in several books, in addition to TIEMPO, Latina Magazine, VOGUE, Vanity Fair, The Guardian, Grist, American Prospect, Al Jazeera, Huffington Post, Despierta America, and a variety of media outlets throughout the United States, Latin America and Europe.
Emilia Ortiz is a spiritual advisor, motivational speaker, and mental health advocate. She carries on the brujeria tradition with a powerful and modern approach. Whether it is facilitating intimate workshops, working one on one with a client, or speaking directly to her 105K+ audience on her immensely popular Instagram account, Emilia is a sought after presence in the modern spiritual community. Her work has been featured on Paper Magazine, Broadly, and Vice.
Glenn Cantave is founder of Movers and Shakers, a coalition that executes direct action and advocacy campaigns for marginalized communities using virtual reality, augmented reality and the creative arts. Mr. Cantave is also Creator and Executive Producer of We the People, a 360 docuseries that humanizes the resistance movement and conveys ways people engage in activism. He covered the contentious Unite the Right protest in Charlottesville, Virginia during the summer of 2017. He was a lead field organizer for the 2014 People’s Climate March and is a member of Black Lives Matter of Greater NYC. His writing has been featured on the Huffington Post.
Sah D’Simone is an esteemed meditation teacher, transformational coach, breathwork instructor and mental health advocate. He is passionate about researching and integrating the intersection of ancient wisdom and modern science. Sah has lived in Ashrams, Monasteries, and Retreat Centers around the world and has studied with experts like His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Thubten Gyatsu, Joshua Rosenthal, Richard P. Brown MD, Joe Loizzo, MD, PhD. Sah is a Certified Mental Health First Aid, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Breath Body Mind Teacher, Ashtanga Yoga & Meditation Teacher, Raw Vegan Chef, MBSR trainee and is currently studying Contemplative Psychotherapy. The combination of these trainings led him to the creation of a cohesive philosophy for optimal health and well-being.
